Description

Folios 193-194: Hugh Cook, HMS Diomede, Spithead. When he wrote to Sir Roger Curtis on 5 April he referred to the absence of Purser William Bailey, who was acting as secretary to the Rear Admiral the Prince of Bouillon. Mr Bailey rejoined the ship last night, encloses his letter. Mr Bailey's agents at Spithead have supplied the ship and the victuals are already stowed away ready for sea service. As the Purser's conduct has been good, asks the Admiralty to cancel the warrant for William Hillman to replace him.

Folios 195-196: enclosed with folios 193-194. Letter dated 9 April 1809 from Purser William Bailey, HMS Diomede, to Captain Hugh Cook. Has learned with regret that William Hillman, former Purser of HMS Jupiter, has been appointed to replace him. Asks if he can remain in his post, his absence for a few days was so that he could complete some papers for Rear Admiral the Prince of Bouillon.
