Description

Folio 592: William Cumberland, Salopinn Coffee House, Charing Cross. Yesterday he received the enclosed letter from William Higgon, Surgeon, appointed to HMS Leyden. Please pass it to the Admiralty.

Folios 593-594: enclosure with folio 592. Letter dated 26 January 1808 by William Higgon, HMS Leyden, to William Cumberland, HMS Leyden, Sheerness. Due to his number of years in practice his knowledge may be gone. He has been acting under the orders of Admiral Wells for eight months and requests to be an assistant or Surgeon in the Navy. Request 2 months for the purpose as stated.
