Folios 257-258: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, off Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 5 May 1808 directed to Captain Robert Mends and passed to him enclosing applications from:- No 1 William Thompson, No 2 James Churchfield & No 3 Joseph Pale for there discharge on finding substitutes. State that William Thompson came as a volunteer substitute for Leonard Hewitson , 12 February 1808 and was discharged into HMS Scorpion on the 3 May 1808. James Churchfield was impressed by the boats of this ship, a stout Ordinary Seaman. Joseph Pale was impressed by the boats of this ship, said to be a Carpenter of the William Merchant Ship but the Master's affidavit not made until two days after being pressed. These two were discharged into HMS Eliza, Tender on 5 May 1808 for the disposal of the Commander in Chief at Plymouth.
