Folios 326-327: William Charleton, Regulating Officer, North Shields. A writ of habeas corpus has been served on Lieutenant Brunswick of the Eliza tender concerning Robert Brown, impressed by Lieutenant Dathan. The Carpenter of the Young Regulus appears to have sworn that Brown was a Carpenter with him and secondly he had not been at sea for two years. Brown was to be discharged as he had offered a bribe to Lieutenant Dathan. Recently two excellent Midshipmen have been lost to the Navy because they were unable to withstand the temptations to take bribes. Robert Brown should be made an example of to stop this vicious practice.
