Description

Folios 137-138: James Creighton, HMS Ringdove, Spithead. Encloses copy of Order dated 8 July from Admiral Sir Edward Thornbrough KCB instructing him to proceed to Brighton and there comply with the wishes of the Duc de Castries and his Officers. Also encloses letter from the Duc which sets out the number and"quality" of Officers on board who were landed at Havre de Grace. The Marquis de Fougeres [?] returned to Brighton and accompanied the Duc de Castries, and suite, to Dieppe. At His Excellency's request returning to Brighton and conveyed the Duchess de Castries and family to Dieppe. In carrying out these duties has incurred considerable expense and requests re-imbursement.

Folios 139-140: enclosure with folios 139-140. Copy of letter from the Duc de Castries to Captain Creighton, Brighton, 8 July 1815. The Marquis de Fougeres is the head of four gentlemen who travel with Captain Creighton. The letter sets out the duties of Mr Dutheil, the Duc's Aide de Camp, Mr de Clercy and Captain Creighton.

Folios 141-142: enclosure with folios 139-140. Orders of Sir Edward Thornbrough to Captain James Creighton given at Spithead on 8 July 1815. To proceed to Brighton and in convoy take HMS Concord, which is laden with arms and ammunition. On arrival go ashore and wait on the Duc de Castries and follow his orders, as far as the safety of His Majesty's Ship and Transport permit. On completion return to Spithead.
