Description

Folios 116-117: J. Caulfeild, North Shields. Refers to Mr Barrow's 25 July letter and reports on the case of Thomas Archbold. He was impressed by Lieutenant Fulton on shore at North Shields on 15 June in a disorderly house and is currently on the Namur. He is"upwards of 18 years" and well suited to naval service. Encloses various documents relating to the matter.

Folios 118-119: enclosure with folios 116-117. Letter from Robert Thompson, South Shields dated 22 July 1815. Confirms an apprentice under a 3 year indenture dated 6 February 1814, named Thomas Archbold was impressed by the Officer on duty. To the best of his knowledge the apprentice has not served at sea and has an aged mother living in Dundee who looks to him for maintenance.

Folios 120-121: enclosure with folios 116-117. Indenture of Thomas Archbold as apprentice to Robert Thompson of South Shields dated 6 February 1815. Signed on 24 February 1815 by [?], G. Warrander and H. Paulet.

Folios 122-123: enclosure with folios 116-117. Authorisation to Impress given to Lieutenant James Balfour Robertson dated 7 November 1814 and signed on 12 April 1815 by [?], G. Warrander and H. Paulet. Also signed by John Brenchley, Mayor and Justice of the Peace for the Corporation of Kent, Gravesend and Milton [?] on 20 April 1815.

Folios 124-125: enclosure with folios 116-117. Authorisation to Impress given to Lieutenant Thomas Thompson dated 7 November 1814 and signed on 12 April 1815 by [?], G. Warrander and H. Paulet. Also signed by John Brenchley, Mayor and Justice of the Peace for the Corporation of Kent, Gravesend and Milton [?] and Nathaniel Gyles on 20 April 1815.

Folios 126-127: enclosure with folios 116-117. Authorisation to Impress given to Captain Charles Carter dated 7 November 1814 and signed on 12 April 1815 by [?], G. Warrander and H. Paulet.
