Folios 92-93: William Cobbe, HM Sloop Despatch, Spithead. Encloses Duncan Dewar's, Clerk on HM Sloop Despatch, Statement on his service. Confirms he has known him many years and can vouch for his character and thinks him worthy of a commissioned appointment.
Folios 94-95: enclosure with folios 92-93. Statement dated 19 July 1815 by Duncan Dewar, Clerk of HMS Despatch at Spithead . Signed by Captain William Cobbe. He states has served six years as a Captain's Clerk serving on HMS Talbot and HMS Statira under Captain Swaine and HMS Despatch under Captain Cobbe. He passed the examination for a Purser in December 1813. When the Statira was wrecked on 27 February 1814 off the south east part of The Great Inague Island he saved all the ship's books and papers in the course of which lost all his possessions. He found it very expensive replacing them. Hopes they will consider him worthy of commissioned appointment.
