Folios 592-593: Francis Augustus Collier, HMS Grampus, Spithead. Encloses a letter from William Lane, acting Lieutenant of his ship, and asks that the appointment be confirmed.
Folios 594-595: enclosed with folios 592-593. Letter from acting Lieutenant William Lane, HMS Grampus, to the Admiralty, not dated. Encloses [no longer present] his order to act as Lieutenant of the Grampus in the place of Lieutenant Wilson, deceased, signed by Captain Francis Collier who was at the time senior officer on the China station. He has served 10 years in the Navy, first as a Midshipman and Mate and then as acting Lieutenant. This is his second time as an acting Lieutenant, the first being in place of Lieutenant Martin, who was given command of HMS Surinam when her commander died on the passage from the West Indies to England. Also encloses [no longer present] his certificate and a letter from Captain Hamilton of the Honourable East India Company ship Bombay thanking him for his efforts to save that vessel. Asks for his Lieutenancy to be confirmed.
