Description

Folios 577-578: James Caulfeild [Caulfield], Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the cases of Thomas Gillingham and William McIntosh. Gillingham was impressed by Lieutenant John Fullton on 19 June out of the Venus of Blyth, Edward Wright, Master, because it appeared that his protection had been granted fraudulently. Gillingham said he had been a farmer and that he had made a trial voyage from Southampton before signing his indentures. McIntosh was impressed by Lt Fullton on 21 June out of the Venus for the same reason. McIntosh says he was previously a ploughman and that a Mr Robinson of Blyth bound him to his present Master. Mr Wright says he is positive McIntosh has never been to sea before, but it turns out he was a complete stranger before he was bound.

Folios 579-580: Attached to folio 578. Admiralty protection certificate granted to Thomas Gillingham as an apprentice to Edward Wright of Blyth and dated 20 May 1815.

Folios 581-582: Attached to folio 578. Admiralty protection certificate granted to William McEntosh as an apprentice to Edward Wright of Blyth and dated 20 May 1815.
