Description

Folios 269-270: William Cutfield, HMS Woodlark, St Marty's Roads, Isles of Scilly. Reports his arrival at St Mary's having sailed on 24 August 1814 from Paysages with a convoy of 26 loaded transports and been forced to seek shelter from the strong easterly winds in the Isles of Scilly. Encloses a copy of the report of the State of repair of the ship [item not enclosed] and a copy of his orders from Rear Admiral Charles Vinicombe Penrose. Advises that the brig HMS Rolla was put under his command and directed to bring up the rear but was detained by 2 bad sailing vessels, who all parted company on the second night. States he did not wait for them to catch up because of the weather.

Folios 271-272: enclosure with folios 269- 270. Copy of Orders, 21 August 1814 from Rear Admiral Charles Vinicombe Penrose, HMS Porcupine, Paysages to William Cutfield, HMS Woodlark. Directs William Cutfield to take under his charge all transports, a list of which to be provided by Lieutenant Copinger, the Agent and with any Merchant vessels bound for Plymouth and to put to sea on Thursday next. Advises that he has directed Lieutenant Stone, acting Commander of HMS Rolla to put himself under Cutfield's orders.
