Folios 243-244: Donald Campbell, Ridgeway, Devon. Reports the case of John Cowan, late a seaman of HMS Rosamond who with many of the crew were granted leave to visit their homes. Advises several of them who went to Ireland did not return to the ship, and in consequence of letters from clergymen and other professionals on the subject of the men's health were seen on the books until HMS Rosamond was ready for sea, when by order of the Commander in Chief at Portsmouth they were marked 'Run'. States that he does not believe John Cowan was in ill health when he left the ship nor does he recollect receiving a letter from Cowan on the subject and if he had he would answered directing Cowan to refer his case to the local Rendezvous Officer near his hoe.
