Description

Folios: 235-236: William Fairbrother Carroll, HMS Cyrus, Plymouth. Reports his arrival at Plymouth, enclosing a copy of his orders from Charles Elphinstone Fleming [Fleeming], Rear Admiral , and a list of the ship's defects. Advises that prior to taking command of HMS Cyrus, the ship had touched the rocks 3 times, once at Malta and twice at Mahon, and since having command of her, the ship has been on her anchor during a squall as a consequence of an incident while laying moored at Venice. Advises that he did not report having been grounded in the list of defects given to the Admiral commanding in Gibraltar as there was no damage that could be found while she was in the water but reports it now in case a few hours work is required to repair any injury to her copper.

Folio 237: enclosure with folios 235-236, Orders, 11 August 1814, from Charles Elphinstone Fleming HMS L'Aigle, Gibraltar Bay to William Fairbrother Fleming, HMS Cyrus. Directs Fleming to proceed to Plymouth and despatch a document to the Admiralty on arrival.
