Folios 202-203: Thomas Colby, Torrington, Devon. States that he has received the Admiralty letter of 13 August 1814, enclosing a letter from his agent John Page, which informed him that his application for full pay and compensation as Commander of the French Prize Brig of War, Sphynx, has not been approved. Requests the decision is reviewed and outlines the circumstances of his commission on 19 April 1814 at the surrender of Genoa from Admiral Sir Edward Pellew, until the ship was put out of commission on 7 August 1814. Explains that at all times the ship movements were under the directions and regulations of senior officers in the Royal Navy and undertook all that was requested of him, the ship and the crew which consisted of 2 Lieutenants, a Carpenter and a crew drawn from different Men of War.
