Folios 251-252: John Carter, HMS Thracian. Requests clarification on what he should do with money he has in keeping for men who have deserted, some long ago. His opinion and that of his brother officers, has always been that the money should be retained in case he should be held liable for it at some point in the future, but he notes that the directive of 17 December 1813 re the clothing belonging to men who have Run, has made him doubt and he would like guidance.
Folios 253-254: enclosure with folios 251-252. Admiralty's printed directive to all commanders dated 31 December 1813, that the clothes and other effects of Run men may be sold at auction as are the effects of men who have died, and the proceeds passed to Greenwich Hospital. The details of these transactions are to be recorded on spare leaves at the back of the pay books for the ship.
