Description

Folios 239-240: James Caulfield, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reply to Mr Barrow's query of 11 February, regarding Andrew Reanney [Renney], now on board the transit, and returning enclosures. Reanney was impressed by Lieut. Fullton on 3 February and detained for the service as he had been appointed mate just 'for the purpose of protecting him from impress'. He is 21, has been 3 years at sea and is an active young man.

Folios 241-242: enclosure with folios 239-240. Letter from William Renney, dated 7 February 1814, father of Andrew, saying his son was chief mate of the Expeditious and was only taken by the impress because of a 'few days wanting' on his indenture, given by the owner in return for some help, and offering to pay for his discharge.

Folio 243: enclosure with folios 239-240. Certificate of oath that Andrew Reanney was employed as chief mate by James Taylor, master of the Expedition [sic] of Sunderland, 82 tons, and describing Reanney as aged 21, 5ft 4ins, brown hair and marked by smallpox.
