Description

Folios 234-235: James Caulfield, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Regarding Mr Barrow's letter of 11 February, reporting on the case of Thomas Bullen, now aboard the Quebec tender, and returning the enclosure with Bullen's Discharge ticket. Bullen was impressed by Lieut. Fullton on 11 January and detained for the service having been 5 years at sea, an active healthy young man with no proof of his being under 18 years old.

Folios 236-237: enclosure with folios 234-235. Letter dated 10 February 1814, from the young man's father, John Bullen, saying his son had been impressed from the Susan though he had a 'proper underage protection' granted by the Admiralty and signed by the Revd Mr Allen of King's Lynn - but had not had this with him when he was detained, so he encloses it now and asks that his son may be discharged accordingly.

Folio 238: enclosure with folios 236-237. Ticket with Mary Bullen's oath that her son was born on 3 June 1796, the father being John Bullen, of King's Lynn, Norfolk, dated 1 February 1814 and signed by the Mayor. The reverse shows an extract from the Register of Baptisms at St Nicholas' church, dated 27 June 1796, with the signature of the minister and the surgeon Hugh Crawforth.
