Folios 219-220: James Caulfield, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Acknowledges receipt of Mr Barrow's letter of 8 February, directing him to send Job Wilkes, of HMS Illustrious, to the flag ship at Portsmouth. However, he advises that Wilkes was taken up by Lt Fullton on 4 February, as a straggler, having exceeded his leave by 14 days. The ticket enclosed purports to show an extension by Revd G. Stevenson, who Caulfield does not think authorised to give it. Other crew from the Illustrious did come before him on their way back to their ship, but Wilkes did not return - asks by what means he should send the man to Portsmouth.
Folio 220A: enclosure with folios 219-220. Ticket of leave, for Joab Wilks, from 27 December 1813 to 21 January 1814. A handwritten note on the bottom says that Wilkes has not been able to find a vessel to take him to Portsmouth from Sunderland, and that his leave is therefore extended until he can do so - signed by G. Stevenson, a Justice of the Peace.
