Folios 174-175: James Caulfield, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Acknowledging receipt of Mr Barrow's query about the case of John Barker, mate of the Flower, and advising that he had originally detained Barker on suspicion of his being an apprentice, illegally appointed mate, but after seeing that his indentures were properly cancelled and lodged in the town hall at Lynn, he discharged the man on 21 January.
Folios 176-177: enclosure with folios 174-175. Letter from the shipowner, dated 25 January 1814, stating that John Barker, mate of the Flower of Edinburgh, now lying at Sunderland, is not an apprentice, his indentures having been cancelled correctly and lodged in the town clerk's office. Asks for Barker's discharge.
