Folios 547-548: William Pryce Cumby, HMS Hyperio, Spithead. In the present dearth of good Boatswains represents (prior to his leaving England) that Joseph Shaw now on the Cheque of Portsmouth Yard having been invalided at Jamaica from HMS Polyphemus, served as Boatswain with him in that ship about two years. Captain [Augustus Leveson] Gower is very desirous of getting him into HMS Elizabeth but there is some difficulty as his only on the Cheque and not holding any appointment to a ship.
