Folios 488-489: George Ralph Collier, HMS Surveillante, Hamoaze. Having accidentally heard a report that during the time the Enemies Squadron was out from L'Orieut [Lorient], and in sight of HMS Pompee, two other of HM Ships, were to Windward; but from the state of the weather the Private Signals would not be distinguished, by which the ships were prevented forming a function. [Proposal for a new signalling system].
