Folios 386-387: Colin Campbell, HMS Plover. Receipt of enquiry concerning Able Seaman John Borookes. it seems he was taken in the French privateer the Admiral Martin by HMS Plover when she was under the command of Captain Browne 3 years ago. The privateer had captured him in the brig the German Packet of Hull. He has received the bounty as an Ordinary Seaman and appears to be about 24 years of age. He is a decent well behaved young man and has done his duty in the fore top since he commanded the sloop.
Folios 388-389: Enclosure with folios 386-387: Letter dated 12 November 1811 from Henry Brooke, Jerusalem Coffee House, Cornhill, London. A respectable young man was captured by the enemy but was recaptured by HMS Plover where he has since remained in the capacity of an Able Seaman. He was intended for a higher rank in society and his friends which to know on what terms he may be returned to them. His name is John Brooke.
