Folios 190-191: William Croft, HMS Alacrity, Sheerness. Encloses a letter from Mr Hughes, Gunner. Notes that his conduct has been excellent during the short time he has been on board, and in view of his length of service hopes that his request will be considered.
Folios 192-193: enclosure with folios 190-191. Letter dated 5 May 1807 by John Hughes, Gunner, HMS Alacrity, Sheerness, to the Admiralty. Following the letter of 31 March, he has applied to his Captain for a warrant for a ship of higher rating. Has been in the service for 14 years, and has been Acting and confirmed Gunner 6 years. He has a large family and would be very grateful for consideration.
