Description

Folios 112-113: Malcom Cowan, 12 Fludyer Street, London. Sends further reports and testimonials in support of his improvement for the sails of ships, and also to note that the Honourable Captain Alan Gardner has agreed to add his testimonial in favour of the courses, which he had on board HMS Hero. He now has favourable reports from so many experienced officers, he thinks fit to ask for promotion, or any other mark of appreciation. Also requests a trial of sails for Gun Brigs, or Sloops of War, with horizontal sails, as he believes that the experience with the Merchant Service shows that the sails will be stronger and less liable to split.

Folios 114-115: enclosure with folios 112-113: Captain Harvey, HMS Standard. Report on Captain Cowan's proposal.
