Folios 624-625: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Acknowledges receipt of letter 15 December with anonymous one enclosed after he returned from leave. Made minute enquiries from everyone in Lieutenant Braddell’s presence to see what the circumstances were that occurred and was the statement true. He caused the hands to be turned upright and requested whoever felt aggrieved by Lieutenant Braddell’s behavior to state his complaint. Of the 400 Supernumeraries on board no one was able to able to offer the smallest complaint. Supporting strict justice which men newly entering the service are unacquainted. Says Lieutenant Braddell attended by Petty Officers made everyone who was lying about the deck go to their beds. As for “riding on the backs with a large pair of spurs”, says this is absurd and that the anonymous letter was more probably the production of some reptile at Liverpool than anyone onboard.
