Description

Folios 580-581: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Reply to letter of 26 September with enclosed application and indenture from J. Naisey requesting Francis Madren, apprentice to Thomas Ellis is discharged. Reports he was impressed by the Gang at Liverpool because he’d been at sea for three years as appears on the date of his indenture, 2 August 1804.

Folios 582-583: enclosed in folios 580-581. Affidavit, Thomas Ellis, Master, the Favorite brig, sworn before Thomas Golightly JP, Liverpool, 24 September 1807. Thomas Ellis of Aberdovey, Merionith, North Wales says he’s Master of the Favorite of Aberdovey and that Francis Madren is his apprentice, was never prior to the indenture at sea and has never been to foreign ports, being only in the Coastal Trade.

Folios 583-584: enclosed in folios 580-581. Petition, Thomas Ellis, Master and part owner of the Favorite brig of Aberdovey, Merioneth, Liverpool, 24 September 1807. Says he usually sails the vessel with his apprentice who he considers a great part of his property like his ship. The vessel is loaded for Ireland and cleared out of Customs House only he cannot proceed because Francis Madren, his apprentice is onboard HMS Princess. Sends Indenture and his Register of Baptism, [no longer present].
