Folios 536-537: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Reply to letter 20 August enclosing applications for the discharge of John Hague from Frogg and Birch and John Quay from Reverend J. J. Gell, offering a substitute. Reports the former youth aged fifteen acknowledges he ran away and the latter was impressed at the Isle of Man having gone to Douglas to buy herrings from the fishery and does no’t appear to have been to sea in any capacity. Says the Reverend Gell’s statement is correct.
Folios 538-538A: enclosed in folios 536-537. Letter dated 14 August 1807 by Frogg and Birch, Manchester. Says John Hague, one of their apprentices entered and is on board HMS Princess. Five feet tall and seventeen years of age and has three years to serve. Write as the Regulating Captain cannot release him back to them.
Folios 539-540: enclosed in folios 536-537. Letter dated 15 August 1807 by Reverend John Julius Gell, Wavertree. Captain Clark impressed John Quay aged about twenty the other day at the Isle of Man. Says he was a Minister on the Isle of Man and knows his father who has no one else to help him on his small estate. Asks can a substitute be found so he can support his aged parents.
