Says the ship’s books show William Pritchard was discharged 14th May which would not have happened had the substitutes not been received. Their names are not recorded by his or any of the other men similarly discharged.
Folios 518-519: enclosed in folios 516-517. Letter dated 28 July 1807 by Owen Parry, 24 George Street, Old Hall Street, Liverpool. Writing for William Pritchard, a Landsman who was impressed on board HMS Eleanor sloop [Helena] 15th July off the Irish coast out of the ship Kingsmill from Barbados bound for Liverpool. Requests his discharge saying he hired two substitutes to serve in his room when impressed in 1806 which Captain Colquitt, HMS Princess approved. Officers in the West Indies saw his certificates and left him unmolested till he met the sloop who ordered him immediately into the boat when he only had time to verbally ask for his case to be made known. He’s distressed at having to pay 21 Guineas and be impressed within fourteen months.
