Description

Folios 484-485: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Replies to letter of 19th, George Kewley’s application for the discharge of John Bertles’s discharge with indenture from William Nichols. Says he’s informed his said Master was incapable of teaching him shoemaking and therefore he turned him over to Moses Folks from whom he ran away and entered as a Volunteer at the Liverpool Rendezvous 14th June. Returns application and indenture.

Folios 486-487: enclosed in folios 484-485. Letter dated 17 June 1807 by George Kewley for Thomas Murrow, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Encloses the indenture of apprentice, John Bertles with an affidavit William Nichols, his Master asking for his discharge with the indenture to Thomas Murrow, [no longer present] which he requests is returned.

Folio 488: enclosed in folios 481-482. Affidavit, William Nichols, Cordwainer, Liverpool, before Thomas Molyneux, JP, Liverpool, 17 June 1807. Says John Bertles, his apprentice from 21 June 1804 has six years remaining entered the Navy without his knowledge or consent.
