Description

Folios 187-188: John Clements, Regulating Captain, Dartmouth. Seeks directions concerning Lieutenant Worral employed upon the Fencibles service further to his letters 3rd May. Says Lieutenant Worrall still persisting in the same conduct, neither assisting with raising men and does not muster or exercise the Fencibles. Of Worrels letter of 29th April that he could have found accommodation in Salcombe had he gone to enquire. Extraordinary conduct.

Folios 189-190: enclosed in folios 187-188. Extract of letters from Captain Nathaniel Portlock to Captain Clements regarding Lieutenant John Worrall’s conduct. 4 May 1807; says he’'s little doubt Lieutenant Worrall’s reports of incapacity proceed more from an improper motive than from illness. Reports seeing him walking out in all weathers and soon after pleading incapacity rowing and sailing a pleasure boat. 8 May 1807; Believes Lieutenant Worrall could have found furnished accommodation in Salcombe since joining the District for him and his family. 9 May 1807; “Lieutenant Worrell reports himself incapable of performing his duty”.
