Folios 162-163: John Clements, Regulating Captain, Dartmouth. Acknowledges 6th January letter with enclosures. Reports he ordered Samuel Wells to be impressed from the Kangaroo brig from Newfoundland December 16th being a stout and healthy seafaring young man about 28 years of age and was put on HMS Cheerly gun vessel to be sent to the flag ship at Hamoze. HMS Cheerly sailed to Plymouth 2nd January during which time he did not receive any application or representation from neither Mr Wells, Mr Maddocks or Mr Newman or Lieutenant Foulerton, HMS Cheerly during that time. He returns the documents he was sent.
Folios 164-165: enclosed in folios 162-163. Letter dated 4 January 1807 by Lieutenant Thomas Foulerton, HMS Cheerly, Plymouth, . Samuel Wells was impressed by the Gang on the orders he presumes of Captain Clements. About thirty years old, an inhabitant of Newfoundland who traveled over to engage 4 or 5 lads to assist him on his fishing boat of which he is part owner. Says his own statement is entitled to belief. He sent him to HMS Salvador del Mondo with the other Supernumeraries.
Folios 166-167: enclosed in folios 162-163. Letter dated 28 November 1806 by Samuel Wells, HMS Cheerly, to William Marsden, Admiralty. Petitions he is a Newfoundland boat keeper with a wife and family together with a boat and other articles in the fishing line. He arrived in the Kangaroo, Dartmouth merchant brig, Mr Maddocks, Master belonging to Mr Newman of Dartmouth to purchase necessaries and settle some accounts but was pressed and put onto HMS Cheerly. Says conceives it is not their Lordships wish to hurt the Fisheries and that his family is entirely dependent on him for support. Encloses his Greenwich ticket to convince them of his assertion.
Folio 168: enclosed in folios 166-167. Greenwich Hospital receipt for ten shillings received from Messers Wells and Batstone, Havre Grace, Newfoundland, 30 October 1806 for four men for five months fishing voyage in 1806. Printed, Williams Printers Cornhill
