Description

Folios 150-151: Edward Sneyd Clay, Regulating Officer, Belfast. Reply to letter of December 3rd. Lists men who’ve been sent to the Rendezvous with improper ratings. Says he’d have impressed George Laverty, 50 years of age, volunteer, as he’s within the permitted age range, eleven years at sea. Reported fit for service by the Surgeon. Hugh Baniff, volunteer Landsman was reported fit by the Surgeon. David McClelland, a stout Able seaman deserted the Maria tender three years ago. John Hogreen a Swede was brought to his by two solders as a volunteer and entered for the service. Says he was repeatedly asked whether he wished to volunteer. Henry McConnell appears by his list to have been at sea for ten years saying if he was discharged from the Marines he kept it secret from himself and the Surgeon. John White, Pressed is one of two men taken in a smuggler by the Telegraph Excise cutter and handed over to the Maria tender by Captain George Stewart. Says all men were examined and reported on by the Surgeon. Trusts their Lordships won’t find his exertions wanting.

Folio 152: enclosed in folios 150-151. List of men received from HMS Pelter who were raised by the Belfast Rendezvous. 2 December 1807, signed Captain Sydney Horton. George Laverty, Brick maker, waster deemed unserviceable by the Surgeon 29th November. Hugh Baniff, deemed unserviceable 29 November 1807 being a cripple from his infancy. David McClelland, Stone Mason and John Hogreen, Farmer returned from HMS Cracker by order. Henry McConnell discharged from the Marines. John White, Laborer.
