Folios 134-135: Edward Sneyd Clay, Regulating Officer, Belfast. Reports on David Boyd and Timothy Alexander being impressed, both of whom were found unfit for HM service. Says he was told David Boyd had been at sea for seven years and was in the habit of going by the Run on traders to Liverpool for which he was paid three guineas one way and two and a half back so he impressed him. The Port Surgeon and Agent examined him as “fit for service”, no other defects other than the loss of one eye which he didn’t appear to him to be reason enough not to forward him to the fleet. Timothy Alexander, Volunteer landsman was brought to the rendezvous and examined by the Surgeon and pronounced fit. Says he’s convinced the two men are using artifice to get clear out of the Service.
