Folios 122-123: Edward Sneyd Clay, Regulating Officer, Belfast. Just received letter of 13th. Says Elisha Thelly was impressed by Lieutenant Turner of the Maria tender after the ship’s Master to which he belonged told the Officer Thelly had abused and ill-treated the Mate and he was an Irishman and not an American. Had no hesitation sending him to Plymouth on the Maria tender as he did not produce a protection.
