Folios 281-282: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. He gives details of 3 men who were have been impressed and whose discharge has been requested by Mr. Lagerman, Russian Consul. Henry Schumaker was pressed by Lieutenant Dathan from the Chance of Newcastle, Andrew Stevenson, Master. He has no papers to indicate his nationality. John Ek was pressed by Lieutenant Dathan from the Trafalgar of Sunderland, John Spence, Master. He claims to be from Oldenberg, but has the appearance of an Englishman. Gerd Jekel did not appear to belong to any ship. He also claimed to be from Oldenberg, but could not remember the name in his passport and spoke with an Irish accent.
