Folios 170-171: Edwin Henry Chamberlayne, HMS Ardent, the Downs. He reports his arrival with the East India convoy. He was delayed at St. Helena waiting for the ships and heard that the China fleet was at Canton as there was a dispute arising from a fight between British sailors and the locals in which a Chinese man was killed. He encloses details of the convoy and his orders from Admiral Murray.
Folios 172-173: enclosed with folios 170-171. Extract from the Calcutta Gazette, 22 April 1807. A report of a fracas at Whampoa between British Sailors and locals in which a Chinese man was killed. The news was brought by Edward Donaldson, Commander, American East Indiaman.
Folios174-175: enclosed with folios 170-171. George Murray, Rear Admiral of the White. Orders issue to Captain Edwin Henry Chamberlayne for escorting the convoy of East Indiamen to England.

HMS Ardent has been at St. Helena for 17 days and he writes to ask the opinion of the Governor regarding the likelihood of further merchant ships arriving shortly. Copy of a letter from Colonel Lane, Governor, St. Helena, to Captain Chamberlayne, HMS Ardent. Colonel Lane believes that merchant ships from China will arrive shortly at St. Helena.
Folios 178-179: enclosed with folios 170-171. Letter dated 21 August 1807 by Edwin Henry Chamberlayne, HMS Ardent, St. Helena. Letter to Colonel Lane, Governor, St. Helena. He asks for news of the likely arrival of the China fleet as he has waited at St. Helena for some time. Letter to Captain Chamberlayne from Colonel Lane, Governor, St. Helena. He believes that the China fleet will arrive shortly and that the value of the goods makes it of national importance that they are escorted safely to England. He asks Captain Chamberlayne to wait longer at St. Helena.
