Folio 425: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter enclosing an application from Major Marshall for the discharge of John Holland, a Drummer belonging to the Manchester Volunteers under his command. States that he entered voluntarily at the Rendezvous as an Ordinary Seaman, having been at sea for sometime, but admits he receives weekly pay as a Drummer.
Folio 426-427: enclosure with folio 425. Letter dated 3 May 1806 from Major M I Marshall, Commander, 1st Battalion Manchester and Salford Volunteers in the absence of Colonel George Philips, Commander, to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. He is sending a copy of Captain Colquitt's letter in answer to a request he made to deliver John Holland, Drummer in the 1st Regiment of the Manchester and Salford Volunteers, who deserted from it on 11 March 1805. Asks for John Holland to be delivered to him. [Followed by ] Copy of a letter dated 1 May 1806 from Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool, to M I Marshall, Major, 1st Manchester and Salford Volunteers. States that John Holland was sent from the Liverpool Rendezvous and admits he has been on a voyage to Africa. he is not authorized to discharge him without an Admiralty order.
