Description

Folio 422: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter enclosing an application from Margaret Robinson and a certificate from 3 respectable medical gentlemen. States that due to ill health he had to give up going to sea 3 years ago. He wears a cowl on his head and appears sickly but has not had any convulsions so the Surgeon cannot judge whether he is really afflicted as claimed.

Folios 423-424: enclosure with folio 422. Letter dated 1 May 1806 from Margaret Robinson, 8 Watkinson Street, Liverpool, to William Marsden, Admiralty Office, London. Her husband was impressed on board HMS Princess last Saturday . Captain Colquitt has advised her to explain the situation. About 3 years ago her husband hd to give up his employment as Chief Mate of a Liverpool vessel because of his ill health. he is subject to alarming fits and currently is not capable of writing. He rents a house at 35 guineas per annum. Two medical gentleman have certified the truth of her assertions. Charles Worthington, Surgeon, James Marshal, Surgeon and L J Jardine, M.D., certify that John Robinson has had frequent attacks affecting the stomach and sometimes followed by general convulsions of a violent and alarming kind.
