Folio 415: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter with applications for discharge from J Denton for Robert Oates, M Hartley for George Holmes and Bird & Buchanan for James Glasgow. States that Oates was impressed at Liverpool and is as described in the indenture and appears never to have been at sea. The statement regarding George Holmes is incorrect as no such person appears either in the books of HMS Princess or on any of the tenders employed in ths station. James Glasgow was impressed at Liverpool, he appears as represented by the Magistrates of County Antrim, and has documents to prove he manages considerable property as a mercantile agent.
Folios 416-417: enclosure with folio 415. Letter dated 27 April 1806 from John Denton, Liverpool, to Lieutenant Tarleton, M.P., London. On 19 [April 1806] one of his apprentices, a joiner working mainly in the shipping line, and having the appearance of a sailor, was impressed and put on board HMS Princess. Captain Colquitt says he cannot release him without an order from the Admiralty. His application is supported by gentleman and shipwrights, 9 of whom have signed the letter.
Folio 418: enclosure with folio 415. Petition dated 24pril 1806 from Milham Hartley and Peter Dixon, Whitehaven, to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. Milham Hartley and Peter Dixon of Whitehaven, Cumberland, Merchants, are owners of a vessel called the Dove of Whitehaven, commanded by John Wilson. On 8 February 1806 the vessel was at Liverpool with a cargo of grain and was boarded by an Officer and boat's crew who impressed Chief Mate George Holmes despite showing the certificate and bond to the Officer. he understands that George Holmes is now serving on board HMS Gibraltar. Asks for his release and return to the Dove.
Folio 419: enclosure with folio 418. Certificate dated 26 April 1799 sworn before W Hendlish (sp?), Justice of the Peace, Cumberland. John Wilson, Master of the Dove certifies that George Holmes is Chief mate of the Dove. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall, fair complexion about 26 year of age.
Folio 420: enclosure with folio 418. Bond dated 31 August 1799 by John Wilson, Master, and George Holmes, Mate of the Dove of Whitehaven that they will not carry out any illegal trade. Witnessed by Benjamin Harris, Comp, and T W Sanderson, Collector.
