Folio 411: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Asks for the Marines allowed to his ship to be sent round from Plymouth. Due to the lack of trustworthy sentries the Supernumeraries have recently made desperate attempts to desert. On 26 [April 1806] 7 of the number allowed to be on deck jumped into the cutter, overpowered the boat keeper and made their escape under heavy musket fire. Judging by blood in the boat, one of them must have been wounded. Boats were immediately sent in pursuit but they had landed in Cheshire before they could be retaken. The drowned body of John Walker who attemper to desert from the ship by swimming on 22 [April 1806] was found yesterday near the landing place. Several others have recently been secured after having succeeded in getting into the water.
