Folio 403: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter enclosing an application from J Watson for the discharge of Joseph Owen, a volunteer landsman, having found a substitute. States that he says he is 16 years old and has been on board a flat [boat] employed in the river Mersey for 6 months. he appears to be a healthy active youth.
Folios 404-405: enclosure with folio 403. Letter dated 22 April 1806 from John Watson, Ironfounder, Liverpool, to William Marsden, Admiralty Office, London. Joseph Owen aged 13 years had begun a trade as a weaver and ran away from his mother. A fortnight ago he entered on board HMS Princess under Captain Colquitt.
