Folios 382-382: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of the enquiry concerning the arrest of Lieutenant Peck commanding the Rose tender, sued by Mr Roberts, Master of the Tranmore Ferry, for his boat which was lost alongside HMS Princess, and asking why the boat was detained. The Master of the ferry asserts that Mr Peck borrowed the boat from him on condition that if he did not return her he was to pay £30. As he failed to do so or to give any satisfaction, he had arrested him. he knows nothing further about the transaction other than that Lieutenant Peck declared the Master had given him the boat for his own use as long as he pleased, subject to no specific conditions. The assertion that the boat was for his [Captain Colquitt's] private use is extraordinary. At the time of the boat's loss peck was 1st Lieutenant of HMS Princess and he frequently ordered him no to keep the boat alongside. Such was his unofficer-like conduct that he was forced to urge his exchange with the Rose tender.
