Folio 362: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Receipt of letter enclosing an application from Mr Chesshyre requesting the discharge of John Thompson in exchange for an able bodied landsman.
Folios 363-364: enclosure with folio 363. Letter dated 25 February 1806 from Edward Chesshyre, Manchester. John Thompson, a 145 year old youth from Manchester, has been in his office about 2 years to be articled as an attorney's clerk. Following an argument with his father we went to Liverpool about 10 days ago and entered as a volunteer on board HMS Princess under Captain Colquitt. He now wishes to obtain his discharge and has applied to Captain Colquitt who says ti cannot be done without an Admiralty order. Asks for Captain Colquitt to be directed to discharge the youth on substituting an able bodied landsman, which the lad's father is ready to do.
