Description

Folio 330: W Cumberland, Liverpool. Replies to a letter concerning James Lawrie. He was impressed on 1 January [1806] as an ordinary Seaman and is now on board the friendship tender which will sail for Plymouth as soon as possible. Replies to another letter concerning William Dedwith who was impressed on 5 [February 1806] as an Able Seaman who had no Protection.

Folios 331-332: enclosure with folio 330. Undated petition from William Dedwith to the Commissioners of the Admiralty. he is a gentleman in possession of a freehold estate of £30 per annum in the county of Merioneth, Wales. By indenture and Custom House certificate dated 8 February 1806 he is a fixed Captain of the new sloop Constant Trader now on the stocks in Chester. He came to Liverpool to purchase rigging without his papers and was seized by the press gang and sent on board HMS Princess. Sir Robert Vaughan, Member for his county, can prove these facts. Asks for the response to be given to Captain Colquitt as soon as possible.
