Folios 218-219: Edward Codrington, HMS Orion, Spithead. Is forwarding a letter and says that such is the ignorance of the writer's duties of the profession, his discharge will be a benefit rather than a loss to the service.
Folios 220-221: enclosure with folios 218-219. Letter dated 30 November 1806 from Henry Howell, Midshipman, HMS Orion, to William Marsden, Admiralty Office, London. He is currently a Midshipman on board HMS Orion. He was apprenticed to the business of a gold and silversmith and his cousin now wishes him to continue as such as he wishes to pass the business on to him. He has not yet served 3 years in the Navy, is over 21 years old and has no hope of promotion. Asks to be discharged and offers to find a substitute if required.
