Description (What the record is about)
-
Folios 311-312: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reply to letter dated 10 April 1806 in the case of Peter Christian Johaneson who's discharge was applied for by L Noel. Peter Johnson, as called upon our Books and I suppose is the man in question, was impressed at North Shields by Lieutenant Mitchell on 28 February 1806, having been at sea for many years before being apprenticed to William Wallace. This case is similar to that of Ole Bystrom reported on the 4 February 1806 and who's discharge was refused as having been some years at sea he could not legally be apprenticed. He had in his possession the enclosed certificate which has him as 26 years old tho' his appearance would not be more than 22 or 23. I add he was sent to the Nore by HMS Lyre, Tender on 28 March 1806.
Folios 313-314: enclosure with folios 311-312: Certificate [in Norwegian?] Peter Christian Johaneson. Dated 1795.
Folios 315-316: enclosures with folios 311-312. Statement, London, 8 April 1806. Peter Christian Johaneson a native of Norway and an indentured Apprentice to Thomas Wallis of South Shields in February and now on HMS Zealand. Encloses the above apprentices indentures and you will see that Peter Christian Johaneson is a legal bound apprentice to Thomas Wallis and also a subject of the King of Denmark. Therefore requests his discharge.
