Folios 288-289: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of Joseph Simpson, who was impressed at North Shields on 4 August 1805 as being a stout , healthy seaman and whose release has been sought by Robert Ramshaw in enclosed letter. Advises that Joseph Simpson made more than £1000 is prize money during the last war which was invested into shipping but during the last year, the improvidence of his temper has prevailed and his shipping interests have been sold, and from Simpson's own account, much of his money has been dissipated and he is now living in 'disgraceful debauchery'.

Requests the discharge of Joseph Simpson, Mariner, of North Shields who has offered to find one or two substitutes in his place to serve in the Navy. Explains that Joseph Simpson had owned a half part of the ship the Hannah but was sold to his copartner Mr Gardner for £450.
