Description

Folios 261-262: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. States that Richard Hay who was impressed at South Shields on 7 July 1805 and detained for not having any proof of not having been to sea before, was discharged on 17 July 1805, when such proof, dated 13 July 1805, was received from his Master in Abderdeen.

Folios 263-264: enclosure with folios 261-262. Letter dated 17 July 1805, from William Honyman, Lord Armadale, Edinburgh to the Admiralty. Writes in the absence of his brother, Captain Robert Honyman, Member of Parliament for Orkney, who is at the Irish Station with HMS Leda. Encloses a note regarding the impressment of Richard Hay, an apprentice under indenture from Mr Moir of Orkney. Requests the Admiralty issues the proper order.

Folios 265-266: enclosure with folios 263-264. Statement, not dated, by Mr Moir to William Honyman, Lord Armadale, Edinburgh. Requests in the absence of Lord Honyman's brother, Captain Robert Honyman, MP for Orkney to consider the case of Richard Hay, an apprentice who has been improperly impressed at South Shields. States Richard Hay was indented to John Harrison, late of the Swan, in June 1804 and remained with John Harrison at South Shields while the Swan was sold and a new vessel purchased fir Mr Trevil of Westove. Advises that Harrison has applied, without effect, to William Charleton, Regulating Captain at North Shields and that the vessel now cannot carry on to Orkney.
