Folio 251-252: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Acknowledges the Admiralty letter of 22 June 1805, ordering the discharge of Thomas Taylor, said to be Mate of the Royal Charlotte together with a certificate saying he is the bona fide Mate of the aforesaid ship. However states that he cannot consider him, in any way possible a legal Mate, and explains his reasons for doubting the case. Refers the Admiralty to his earlier letter of 13 June 1805 in which he states the case of Thomas Taylor and in which he returned a letter form Mr Bulmer acknowledging the circumstances of the case, and another letter, dated 7 June 1805, in which he recommended that Lee, the fictitious Master, should be made an example of for his barefaced perjury.
