Folios 229-230: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of John Murray whose discharge has been applied for by Thomas Ferguson in the enclosed letter. States that John Murray was impressed at South Shields on 3 May 1805 and was sent to the Nore on 29 May 1805. Explains that the Indenture [item not enclosed], not being stamped as required by law, could not be considered as a Protection. Says the stamp on the indenture appeared to be an impression of some seal of office stuck on the paper and not the that of an Indenture of Apprenticeship from the Stamp Office in Ireland.
Folios 231-232: enclosure with folios 229-230. Letter dated 13 June 1805, from Thomas Ferguson, 3 George Yard, Lombard Street, London to the Admiralty. Requests the discharge of John Murray and encloses his Indenture. States that there is a stamp on the document, 'which being an Irish one and being on the back' and was not observed by the Regulating Officer. [Item not enclosed].
