Folios 188-189: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the cases of William King and John Cameron whose discharge has been applied for Christopher Bainbridge and C Galloway in the enclosed letters. Advises that William King was impressed on the streets at South Shields on 7 May 1805 and detained on the grounds of being suspected to have been to sea before the date of his Indenture, although proof would have to be obtained by writing to his birthplace in Essex. However believes that King's appearance is that of a sailor and that the equivocation in his account of why he was in South Shields further supports that belief but if William King is able to produce his Indenture as a shoemaker the matter would be resolved, supposing the story to be true. Dismisses the Affidavit, as every day experience has proven to him that equivocation is cloaked under the phrase 'verily believes'. States that John Cameron was impressed on 7 May 1805 but dismisses his claim for Protection on the grounds that the date of the Indenture has been altered from 1803 to 1804.

Objects to the injury being done to the Navy Service by the many Apprentices being detained in this manner. Encloses the Indenture and an Affidavit. [Item not enclosed].
